Xinhua News Agency, Hohhot, March 18 (Reporter Wang Jing) The reporter learned from the Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on the 18th that by 9: 00 on the 18th, the entire frozen section of the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia had been opened, and the ice flood had entered Wanjiazhai Reservoir safely, marking the opening of the entire Yellow River and the safe and smooth passage of the ice flood season.
According to reports, on November 22, 2021, the first ling appeared in the section from Sanhu estuary to Toudaoguai in Inner Mongolia of the Yellow River. On December 16, the first seal appeared near Hecheng Village in Tumed Right Banner of Baotou City. On January 24, 2022, the Inner Mongolia section of the Yellow River entered a stable freezing period, with a length of 637 kilometers, and the river closure was generally stable. With the temperature rising, on February 25, 2022, the ice surface of the section above Haibowan Water Control Project of the Yellow River melted, the ice layer in the reservoir area became thinner, and the cold air activity was weak. The Inner Mongolia section of the Yellow River entered the river opening period, and the whole section was opened until March 18. The ice flood season lasted for 117 days, and the river started 7 days earlier than normal (1971-2020). The flood control project runs smoothly and there is no major danger.
This year, the ice flood of the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia shows the characteristics of high temperature before freezing, high temperature during freezing, slow river closure, strong river flow capacity after freezing, high temperature during river opening, less ice flowing and stable river opening situation.
Inner Mongolia section of the Yellow River is the most frequent section of ice flood in China. Because some sections of the Yellow River flow from low latitude to high latitude, there is a time difference between freezing and opening the river every year. Therefore, in spring and winter, flood is prone to occur due to the influence of ice, which poses a threat to coastal residents.
This year, the opening period of the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia is at an important stage of epidemic prevention and control in Inner Mongolia. Faced with the complicated and changeable situation of preventing ice, Inner Mongolia adheres to the goal of "ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property and ensuring that the Yellow River embankment will not burst", and timely issues the Work Plan for yellow river ice in the Opening Period of 2022, strengthening the implementation of measures, and closely cooperating with the military and the local authorities. On the basis of doing a good job in epidemic prevention and control, Inner Mongolia pays close attention to all kinds of ice prevention and control work. All the allied cities and relevant departments along the Yellow River fulfilled their duties, ensuring the safety of the Yellow River ice prevention this year.
The ice flood of the Yellow River is the most prominent and main flood in winter and spring in China. The evolution of the Yellow River ice jam is very complicated. The Yellow River usually flows for the first time in Inner Mongolia in the middle and late November, which marks the Yellow River entering the annual ice jam season. Usually in the late March of the following year, the entire Inner Mongolia reach opens, marking the end of the annual flood season of the Yellow River.
