It is understood that Guizhou golden monkey was listed as a national first-class protected animal in 1989, and was listed in the EN (Endangered) level of the World Conservation Union in 2008 because it lives in Fanjing Mountain, a world natural heritage site like an "isolated island", and it is one of only two key protected and managed species in Guizhou Province in National Forestry and Grassland Administration’s List of Key Species Protection and Management Tasks.
According to the latest statistics of Guizhou Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve Administration, the current number is about 800. Established in 1990, Fanjingshan Wildlife Rescue Center mainly carries out rescue, breeding and breeding research of Guizhou golden monkey and other wildlife rescue work. At present, there are 9 Guizhou golden monkeys rescued from the wild or artificially bred in the rescue center.
