The basic penalty for the crime of abducting and selling women and children stipulated in Article 240 of the Criminal Law is fixed-term imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than ten years. If there are particularly serious circumstances, it can be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than ten years or life imprisonment or even death. Article 241 of the Criminal Law stipulates: "Whoever buys abducted women and children shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention or public surveillance."
